Funds Raised Being Put to Work
The Angels celebrate with the children of Po Leung Kuk and give Super Nova a beautiful goodbye.
The Po Leung Kuk Fun Day is one of the most anticipated events on the Angels for Orphans calendar. It is our chance to celebrate our partnership with Po Leung Kuk’s (PLK) Residential Care Centre in Causeway Bay and to share some great times with the children there.
The money we raise for PLK helps fund their Children’s All Rounded Development Program, which provides extra-curricular enrichment opportunities to residential children.
From our ‘Angel’s Zumbathon’ event in 2016 we were able to donate $270,000 to support this program and in doing so enabled 736 children to develop their talents (in areas such as sport, art, cooking and I.T) and benefit from academic tutorials.
The sixth annual Po Leung Kuk Fun Day was held on Saturday 10th June at which more than 100 children, aged from 3-17, joined us for an afternoon of exciting games, tasty treats and entertainment.
Our Angel’s PLK Fun Day would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors who provide and run the activities with such skill and enthusiasm.
The children loved creating masks with Gail Deayton of Hong Kong Art Tutoring, playing robot football and learning to code with the staff from Creative Coding. The Hong Kong Dodgeball team got the kids running around and learning the basics of the game before the talented people of Face Slap! began transforming hands and faces into fabulous works of art. Marks & Spencer provided a table of tasty treats and ice cream was donated by the always popular, Wild Mylk.
The day ended with some great entertainment, starting with some of the talented children of PLK who show-cased the skills they have learnt through the enrichment program. We then had a DJ session with our very own Emmanuel Diaz, which got the kids grooving and trying their hands on the decks!
The day ended with a beautiful and heartfelt presentation to our fabulous Angel Nova Thomas (aka Super Nova) in which the staff and children of PLK said their goodbyes and thanks to Nova for her hard work and commitment to the Children’s All Rounded Development Program.
Nova has now left Hong Kong and will be greatly missed but the fundraising by Angels for Orphans will carry on so that PLK can continue to enrich the lives of the children in their care through this fantastic extra-curricular program.
